The quick and fast end of december

Filed under: Australia — admin @ 8:23 pm

So, just because I’ve been too lazy, and I want to keep a relitivily up to date site, I’m going to give a quick overview of of a couple of weeks, and because I usually say I might update and put in more detail later, knowing myself, that’s not going to happen.

With noosa done, and no surf to speak of, I made my way to Brisbane. It was kinda nice to see a city again. I didn;t really do anything while I was there, and I spent three nights, but I wondered around, and it was an ok city? upon leaving there, I decided to go to Surfers Paridice. Which for those who don’t know, is quite posibly the most touristy pace in the entire world. I was really just going to stay here for a day of two, just to see it, but then I had a really cool hostel. it was out of surfers itself, and had a really good vibe and people. So I ended up staying five nights, and having a good time. I also hadn’t been going out much in the previous weeks, like to clubs or bars, and so it was fun for a few days. the only thing of note that I did while I was there, was go to a water park, which I hadn’t done since I was like 14, and that was a fine day. So after Surfers, the next stop was byron bay. where I was going to stay for a week, and go surfing. and that’s what I did. A nice week, not very social, butI had a few friends there. the surf wasn’t as good as I’d heard, but I still had fun, and it was nice to be in the water. and more or less, that brings me untill I get to Sydney. So there. . .

Crikey!!

Filed under: Australia — admin @ 11:51 pm

So I haven’t writin in a while, and this will be short, but I’m going to a real city tomarrow, so I can do all the internet stuff and the like then. but today I went to the australia zoo. very touristy, but really cool none the less. sadly, the crock man himself wasn’t there. first this I saw was harriot, a galapagos tortoise, 175 years old, pick up by charles darwin. this wondered around seeing alagaters, some crocks, tazmanian devils, casowaries(sp?), dingo, and koala. then my batteries went dead and I reallized that I hadn’t been charrging my batteries, so I had to go and buy some, crikey! after that it was almost time for the show so I went and got a seat. so to explain, they have a show with various animals in there new stadium, first is snakes, then tigers, then free flight birds, and then the crocks. the first one, snakes was kinda lame. I mean, what can you do in a snake show, unless you charm cobras. but anyway the tigers were cool, and the birds were neet as well, and they just flew around the stadium. but it was cool to see the crocks, and see the feadings, and such. but no wrestling. after the shows, I had lunch then wondered around, through a kangaroo and wallaby area. where they were just all free in this area, and you could go up to them and pet and feed them. after I finished that, there was going to be another crock show, and since that was the main atraction here, Crikey. it was cool because it was in a smaller area. so then after this show I made my way over to the tiger area, which was nothing that special. then the elephants where getting a bath, but then portlands zoo is so good for elephants, that wasn’t anything special either. then I went through another koala part, there you could pet them, then the same thing with red roos. then I saw the wombats, very strange aminmals. next was the deadly snakes, and that was cool. they had the five most venemus snakes in the world (the top 11 are australian) and some pythons oand other snakes as well. but this time I made my way back to the elephants, and it was feeding time, where we were able to feed thme ourselves, and that was cool. and then I just had a wonder back, then only new thig I was was the kamono dragon, and I could only see part of it, and it didnt move, so whatever. any way all n all, it was really cool. a bit touristy, but it was a zoo, and that’s kind of the point. but definalty a good day.

Crazy in the Sand

Filed under: Australia — admin @ 7:31 pm

So I made it down to harvey bay. checked in to my hostel and got the info on fraser island adventure. we got a briefing early the next morning, and from there they devidid us into groups. I was lucky, I got a good group. four enlish, four irish, and me. the rest of the morning was just hectik going over everything, and then going shopping for food. and then making it down to the barge for transfer to the island. for those of you who don’t know, fraser is he largest sand island in the world, accessable only by 4×4 in crazy sand roads. the eastern beach in considered a state highway. so that’s what we were getting ourselves infor. We were the first group, and in everything, were were number one. firstones, packed up, first one done shoping, first one to the bardge. we rocked. so I got to drive first, and so I got to drive us around getting ready, then onto the bardge. I then got to start driving on the sand tracks. this was way fun. I don’t have any images of them, but google it, and you’ll understand what we were doing. the first day we decided to just drive to the northern part of the of the beach, stop at indian point, the only rocks on the island, and you could see down to the sea, and see ray’s sharks and turtle’s. (the beach of the islanb is a tiger shark breeding area. after this we went to champagne pools, the rock pools, that is the only place you can swim in the ocean, and relaxed for a while. after a bit of time here, we headed down to find ourelves a place to camp. We had a nice BBQ and settled into camp. the first thing that we noticed was he bug. MY GOD, Huge sandfly’s. And they swarmed. So after dinner we just sat ourselves on the beach and drank wine into the night. the one thing that kinda sucked was no camp fires. well we had fun. So the next day everyone was up early and it was so hot in the tents you couldn’t sleep. I was awake for an hour counting the beads of sweat forming on my back be fore I got up at six. so then a light breakfast, and we went to fin the showers. here we also made lunch for the day, and getting to the food can be a little trouble. then we decided to just make a bee-line to our first real destination, Lake Wabby. It was about a k, of k and a half in, but tis lake was amazing, just being there at the bottom of a massive sand dune. we stayed here for a few hours, basking in the sun and water. then we headed back to have lunch. we then made the decision to make camp early and just chill a bit, so we found just about the southern mostplace you could camp, and set up. Then we had ourselves a lazy day, and a long night, as we tring to finnish all the booze we had brought. so we got up the next day and headed inland quick as the flies we very bad this morning. we got to our first lake, had breakfast, and made lunch. then we went down to the lake, and it was cool, as the floor was red, so the lake looked red, but it wasn’t a good place to chill, so we left and headed to our next lake. here we spent the rest of the morning and afternoon, before having lunch and heading in to make our ferry. it was a nice trip, and now we headed back into the shed to return all the equipment, and vehicles. had a little stop at the bottle shop, and went back to the hostel. and I think that was one of the best showers of all time. then night we had a all you can eat pizza feed, and then hung out for the rest of the night, just glad not to be covered in sand. what a nice couple of day’s. the next day, I was off to Noosa.

lazzin’

Filed under: Australia — admin @ 6:42 pm

S0 after I left arlie beach, I decided to stop in Angus Water / 1770. these are two sleepy little towns on the coast, that in a few years are going to explode with tourism, but it’s still realitivily untouched. there’s two backpackers, and I stayed at the original and coll one, called “cool bananas” first thing after I got there, a guy was doing a free 4WD tour around the area. what a great way to start out. this same guy ran scotter tours in the evening, (for only $25) from 3pm till sunset and we went around ,and found wild kangaroos, and walibies. it was a very good start to my stay, and then that night I met up with the people there, and we started a poker game, and then I decided I was going to stay here a while. Actualy a week. it was preaty much just lazing around, but I also went sail-kayaking, and surfing, and boogie boarding. played more poker, and just had a good time. really I think that this is my fav place I’v been in australia. we we had a great beach party on the weekend, until it became a shower about 2 in morning, but still a great time. It was really hard to leave, but I kinda wanted to get back on the road, and I was looking forward to frasier island. well, you can’t stay everywhere forever.
